Week 4 #8

RSS is Dangerous!
I have already found a dozen different places that I have signed up for RSS feeds! It will now take just as much time, if not more, to check out all my favorite things because with RSS it is so easy that I now have more things to read. I like how the NYTimes breaks the RSS feeds into the different sections of the paper and on most of them you can narrow it down even more, like just a certain part of the world instead of everything. I will definitely be using RSS at home to monitor favorite personal stuff.

At school there are several different ways it can be useful. I have checked a few libary web sites and haven't really found any that have RSS that I would like to see. I couldn't find anything on VOYA, Booklist, ect. granted I just did a superficial search and I will go back later and see what is available. Keeping up with newly published books for YA's would be nice, new book reviews, new practices, Internet safety stuff, there are a ton of different things. It would also be really cool to find a few sites to monitor for articles for specific curriculum areas. NYTimes science, Discovery Channel, and tons of others, then when something that relates to an area of curriculum links to those articles could be forwarded to the departments. This would be for those teachers who are unable and/or unwilling to learn how to set up their own Readers.

This seems to be just scratching the surface, I know that as soon as I get more comfortable using these myself all kinds of uses will come up!

RSS is very dangerous, although I have found that time tends to weed out the ones that only sound fun but don't really have connection to our lives.

I do find it an invaluable tool in helping me check them quickly and saving me time that way.
